Both looking to return to the win column, heavyweights Gian Villante and Jake Collier fought on Saturday’s UFC card. Here’s how their bout went.
Bout 1: Gian Villante (17-12) vs. Jake Collier (11-5) (Heavyweight)
Collier was active with leg kicks in the opening minute of the fight. The fighters traded punches back and forth early in the first round. A cut down the middle of Collier’s forehead opened in the second minute of the fight. A jab from Collier in the third minute wobbled Villante for a moment. Collier landed a left hook in the fourth minute that hurt Villante, causing him to backpedal.
The striking battle continued in the second round. The exchanges on the feet were mostly punches where the fighters would take turns landing shots.
A groin shot to Villante caused a break early in the third round. While fatigue caused the fight to slow down in the third round, the fight continued to be a close battle on the feet. A kick to the groin of Collier caused another pause in the fight halfway through the round. Collier started to pull ahead with the striking as the fight ran out of time. Collier won on the scorecards after (30-27, 30-27 & 30-27).
