COVID-19 issues knocks Saturday’s card down to 12 bouts in total.
Saturday night’s UFC card has lost two fights, as Karl Roberson and Aiemann Zahabi have withdrawn from their respective bouts. The fighters were scheduled to compete on UFC’s “Fight Night” card from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Both of the cancelled bouts were confirmed by the UFC in an official statement.
Zahabi withdrew from his fight after testing positive for COVID-19. Per a statement from Zahabi, he tested positive before flying out to the event.
“I’m going to hopefully get this COVID-19 out of my system soon and get a quick turnaround for the fight,” said Zahabi on Twitter.
Zahabi was scheduled to fight Drako Rodriguez, who was making his UFC debut after a strong performance on “Dana White’s Contender Series.”
Roberson was pulled from his fight against Dalcha Lungiambula due to “COVID[-19] issues,” per a post on his Instagram.
UFC’s final card of the year has now been severely hurt by COVID-19 positive tests. Five bouts in total have cited COVID-19 as for why they were removed from the lineup.
The biggest of all cancelled COVID-19 fights was a main event fight that was thrown out after Leon Edwards tested positive for COVID-19. He was set to fight Khamzat Chimaev.
