Gillian Robertson and Taila Santos closed out their 2020 with a flyweight bout on Saturday’s UFC prelims. Here’s how their three-round fight panned out.
Bout 4: Gillian Robertson (9-4) vs. Taila Santos (16-1) (Flyweight)
Santos clinched with Robertson early in the fight after slipping slightly. Robertson took the fight down in the first minute, looking for an armbar. Santos escaped the attempt, taking full guard on top after. Santos landed punches periodically from her position. Robertson connected with some elbows while on her back. Santos held full guard on top until the round concluded.
Robertson clinched with Santos early in the second round. Santos landed a trip takedown from the clinch, taking side control on top after. She moved into full guard after. Robertson looked for an armbar in the second minute of the round, although Santos was able to escape the attempt then move into a north-south position. Santos attempted an inverted triangle while on her back, although Robertson was able to escape. Robertson took half guard on top after escaping the choke. She moved to the back of Santos, looking for an armbar. Santos rolled into side control on top in the third minute. Santos kept control over Robertson until the round ran out of time.
Robertson pulled guard early in the third round while looking for a guillotine choke. Santos left the choke, getting control on the ground after. Robertson attempted an armbar in the fourth minute of the round, although Santos was able to escape in the final minute. The fight remained on the floor until the horn went. Santos earned her 17th win as a pro when consulting the scorecards (30-26, 30-26 & 29-28).
RESULT: Taila Santos def. Gillian Robertson via Decision, Unanimous
