With the main event spot for UFC’s January 20th show recently vacated, a previously booked co-main event fight between Neil Magny and Michael Chiesa has been elevated to headliner status. UFC President Dana White mentioned the plan for this change during an interview with The Schmo on Wednesday.
The fight, which is set to happen at “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, takes the spot of Khamzat Chimaev versus Leon Edwards.
The previous main event was cancelled earlier in the week after it was reported that Chimaev is recovering from COVID-19.
The fight will see both welterweights put their three-fight win streaks on the line.
Magny had a busy 2020 that saw him pick up three wins, defeating Li Jingliang, Anthony Rocco Martin and Robbie Lawler.
Chiesa made his win streak a trio in January of 2020, earning a decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos.
