DEEP Impact Announces Six Bouts For 20th Anniversary Show

Regional Japanese MMA promotion DEEP Impact has announced six fights to take place on their 20th-anniversary card, which is scheduled for February 21st. The show, DEEP 100 Impact, will take place at the TDC Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

The promotion announced bouts for the card earlier in the week.

Veteran Satoru Kitaoka is currently scheduled to main event the card against Juri Ohara.

Ohara, a DEEP veteran, returns to the promotion following a win against Yusuke Yachi at RIZIN 24 in September. Prior to his RIZIN win, Ohara had a win in August against Takumi Suzuki.

Ohara lost two DEEP championship fights against Koji Takeda 2019.

The fight will be Kitaoka’s first appearance in DEEP in 2018, where he dropped a decision to Takeda.

Four of Kitaoka’s past five fights have taken place in RIZIN, with the other being in his own promotion, iSMOS. His last five fights have resulted in three losses, one win and one draw.

Yuki Motoya vs. Shoji Maruyama

Both dropping back down to the regional scene following a loss in RIZIN, Yuki Motoya and Shoji Maruyama will face off on the card.

Motoya lost in RIZIN’s New Year’s Eve event recently, being stopped in the first round with a rear naked choke from Naoki Inoue. Prior to his loss, Motoya had a three-fight win streak in 2020 that included two wins in DEEP.

Maruyama, a frequent competitor in DEEP since 2010, lost his last fight in September, being stopped within a round by Kai Asakura.

Hideki Sekine vs. Seigo Mizuguchi

The card will have heavyweight action, as Hideki Sekine and Seigo Mizuguchi will compete.

Sekine will look to snap a two-fight skid from 2020 which saw him get finished twice. After being stopped in one round by Roque Martinez at RIZIN 21, Sekine lost a fight in August, being finished in the second round by Ryo Sakai.

Mizuguchi will aim to bounce back from a failed title shot in 2019, where he lost to Martinez as well.

Shizuka Sugiyama vs. Aoi Kuriyama

DEEP Jewels veteran and RIZIN alum Shizuka Sugiyama will return on the card, fighting Aoi Kuriyama. Sugiyama last competed in July, where she caught Mika Arai in the third round with an armbar.

Kuriyama is back in action after picking up her second win as a pro in October. Kuriyama competed on DEEP Jewels 30 in 2020, defeating Yuko Oya. Kuriyama trains at “Team Smoker,” a gym which is currently best known for RIZIN talent Kyohei Hagiwara.

CORO vs. Shuhei Higashi

Following a stoppage victory in November, Shuhei Higashi has been invited back to DEEP to fight CORO, AKA Kosuke Terashima. Higashi’s win at DEEP 99 Impact saw him defeat Noriyoshi Wada in the first round with a rear naked choke.

CORO lost his last fight, being finished late in the fight with punches from Shoji Maruyama. He had picked up a two-fight win streak before the loss.

Hiroya vs. Shunsuke Miyabi

Muay Thai fighter and kickboxer Shunsuke Miyabi will make his MMA debut on the card against Hiroya.

Miyabi enters the fight after a career that includes wins in BOM, REBELS and NO KICK NO LIFE.

Hiroya currently has a negative MMA record with four wins and six losses. He last competed in December, where he dropped a decision to Kotetsu Hara.
