The fight will be Ortega’s return to the title picture after an important win in the Fall.
Alexander Volkanovski will defend his UFC Featherweight Championship against Brian Ortega on a March 27th UFC pay-per-view card, per a report from Ariel Helwani of ESPN.
The current location for the event, UFC 260, is not known at the moment.
The fight sees Ortega return to the championship level following a five-round win over Chan Sung Jung, also known as The Korean Zombie, in October.
The win for Ortega was his first fight since late 2018, where a doctor stoppage took him out of a championship fight against Max Holloway. The championship fight for Ortega was his first loss as a pro through 14 fights, six of which took place in the UFC.
The title has since changed hands since then, as Volkanovski took the belt from Holloway in 2019. Volkanovski has defended his belt once, defeating Holloway in a close split decision at UFC 251.
The current plan is to add Stipe Miocic versus Francis Ngannou to UFC 260 as well, although that fight isn’t confirmed yet, per Helwani.
The featherweight championship bout joins a card that has two light heavyweight bouts previously booked for it. Here’s how it looks.
Bout 3: Alexander Volkanovski (22-1) vs. Brian Ortega (15-1) (UFC Featherweight Championship)
Bout 2: Johnny Walker (18-5) vs. Jimmy Crute (12-1) (Light Heavyweight)
Bout 1: Modestas Bukauskas (11-3) vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk (14-4) (Light Heavyweight)
