Coming down from losing a title fight in 2020, Paulo Costa has been booked against former champ Robert Whittaker in the headlining bout for UFC’s April 17th card.
First reported by Marcelo Alonso of Sherdog, the five-round fight will join a UFC “Fight Night” card. The location of the event is not known at the moment.
Costa took his first loss as a pro in September, getting stopped by UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya in the second round with punches. Before his failed title shot, Costa picked up notable wins in the promotion over Yoel Romero, Uriah Hall and Johny Hendricks.
Whittaker will aim to continue his campaign at middleweight, running through the division en route to another title shot. Whittaker lost his belt in October of 2019 to now-champ Adesanya, getting stopped within two rounds.
UFC’s April 17th card only has one other fight currently booked for it, that being a middleweight bout between Gerald Meerschaert and Bartosz Fabinski.
