Former UFC fighter Sage Northcutt will end his near two-year absence from the cage in April, fighting Shinya Aoki in the fourth episode of “ONE on TNT.” The matchup was first reported by Ariel Helwani of ESPN.
The bout will air on April 28th and is expected to take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.
Northcutt had a rough ONE Championship debut in 2019, getting stopped within a minute by strikes from Cosmo Alexandre. Northcutt suffered major injuries following the loss, including “eight fractures.”
Northcutt put together a three-fight win streak before departing the UFC for a career in ONE.
He now fights Aoki, a veteran of MMA with over 50 fights to his name.
The former ONE champ is currently on a three-fight win streak. His last win was a quick one, as he mounted the back of James Nakashima and submitted him in the third minute of their fight.
The fight between Northcutt and Aoki is the sole bout that has been announced for ONE’s April 28th episode. The promotion plans to have fights including Demetrious Johnson, Rodtang Jitmuangnon and Eddie Alvarez in the inaugural episode earlier in the month.
