PFL announced a wave of signings recently that filled the gaps left in the roster for their 2021 season. The eight names complete the welterweight, light heavyweight, featherweight and lightweight divisions.
Tibau, Kunchenko and Ponet Join Welterweight Class
Former UFC fighters Gleison Tibau and Alexey Kunchenko are scheduled to join PFL’s welterweight class along with Jason Ponet.
Tibau competed in the UFC for over a decade, fighting from 2006 to 2018. His last bout was in 2019, where he defeated Will Brooks on a regional card.
Kunchenko, a former M-1 Champion, will join PFL fresh off a four-fight run in the UFC. The campaign ended after he lost decisions to Gilbert Burns and Elizeu Zaleski.
Experienced French fighter Ponet will get a shot in the PFL after earning a three-bout win streak in the past few years. His last win was a decision victory over Ahmad Labban on a UAE Warriors card.
Wade and Dizy Become Final Featherweight Entrants
PFL announced the signings of Chris Wade and Anthony Dizy to complete their 145-pound division.
Wade will be returning for his third PFL season. The former UFC fighter has put together a strong promotional of five wins and three losses from the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Dizy enters the PFL featherweight division after picking up two wins in M-1 Global. He will end an absence from the cage, as he has not competed since 2019.
Invicta FC Alum Young and Guardado Join Lightweight Roster
PFL’s 155-pound division was completed with the signing of Kaitlin Young and Taylor Guardado.
Young will move up a weight class to participate in the 2021 season. The Invicta FC veteran with over 20 pro fights picked up a win in her last fight, defeating Latoya Walker via decision.
Guardado joins the PFL roster shortly after making her pro debut. Guardado participated in an Invicta FC one-night tournament last year, defeating Claire Guthrie and Serena DeJesus in one-round fights to make it to the finals. She lost in the finals to Taneisha Tennant. The loss was Guardado’s first pro fight. Like Young, Guardado will be fighting at lightweight after previously competing as a bantamweight.
Roehrick Becomes Final Light Heavyweight Addition
Nick Roehrick will enter the PFL light heavyweight division in this year. He joins the promotion after putting earning nine wins as a pro on the regional scene. He competed once under the UFC in 2017, losing a fight to Jared Cannonier. He was handed a one-year USADA suspension before news broke that he departed the promotion.
