Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum is scheduled to headline PFL’s May 6th card, fighting Renan Ferreira at the season opener for the heavyweight and lightweight divisions.
PFL’s May 6th card will take place at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. The fight will be done behind closed doors as part of the promotion’s bubble format.
Werdum will be competing for the first time since wrapping up an 18-fight run in the UFC. He picked up a win before leaving the promotion, submitting Alexander Gustafsson with an armbar back in July.
Ferreira will be making his PFL debut as well. His last fight was in 2019, where he defeated Jared Vanderaa in the main event of an LFA card.
Harrison To Open Season Against Morais
2019 PFL Lightweight Champion Kayla Harrison will compete in the co-main event, fighting Mariana Morais. Harrison had a flawless run in the 2019 season, winning four fights in the year.
Harrison competed once during PFL’s offseason in 2020, defeating Courtney King in a featherweight bout.
Morais will be making her PFL debut after putting together a three-fight win streak in Shooto Brasil. Earlier fights in her career include appearances in KSW and Invicta FC.
Heavyweight Champion Isaev Returns
2019 champion Ali Isaev will look to defend his undefeated record when fighting Hatef Moeil.
Isaev made his PFL debut in 2019, putting together five straight wins to claim the heavyweight championship. A win in May will put him into double digits for pro wins.
Moeil enters PFL after earning six consecutive wins in the past three years.
The opening fight on the main card will see Genah Fabian and Laura Sanchez compete in a lightweight fight. Similar to other fighters in the division like Julija Pajic or Taylor Guardado, Fabian and Sanchez are still significantly early into their MMA careers.
