Alonzo Menifield has been given a new opponent for UFC’s March 27th pay-per-view card, now being matched with LFA Light Heavyweight Champion Fabio Cherant instead of William Knight. The recent change was announced by the UFC on Wednesday.
The new light heavyweight matchup will happen at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA as part of UFC 260.
Cherant gets the UFC call-up just a month after earning a championship in LFA. The five-round unanimous decision victory for Cherant came against veteran Myron Dennis in February.
Cherant has appeared on UFC programming before, losing a bout on “Dana White’s Contender Series” in 2019. He has since won three consecutive bouts on the regional scene.
Menifield will look to break a two-fight losing streak. He was stopped in his last fight, getting floored by UFC veteran Ovince St. Preux in September.
Knight has already been booked in a new matchup, as he has been matched up against Da Un Jung for UFC’s April 10th card. Knight will be replacing Shamil Gamzatov, who was pulled from the lineup due to visa issues.
It is not known why Knight withdrew from the lineup.
