Vicente Luque’s first-round submission victory over former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley was given the “Fight of the Night” award for UFC 260 on Saturday night. The award gave both fighters an extra $50,000 on top of their previously negotiated fight purses.
“Performance of the Night” bonuses of an identical amount were also given to new UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou and Sean O’Malley. The bonuses were given out after UFC 260, which took place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Luque’s win in the co-main event saw him prevail late in a back-and-forth round of action. After getting rocked by shots from Woodley, Luque was able to answer back with punches that hurt the former champ. Luque finished the bout in the final minute of the frame, catching Woodley with a darce choke that forced the tap.
Ngannou’s performance bonus came following his championship win over Stipe Miocic. Ngannou was able to close out their title fight in the second round, knocking Miocic out with a left hook in the second round.
O’Malley’s return to the win column against Thomas Almeida was what earned him a bonus. The dominant three-round striking performance came to a close in the second-last minute, where he dropped the UFC vet with a left hand.
