Bellator Featherweight Champion Cris Cyborg will fight Leslie Smith in a rematch on May 21st, competing in the main event of Bellator 259. The title fight was announced by the promotion during their Bellator 255 broadcast on Friday night.

The fight is scheduled to take place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA.

The first meeting between Cyborg and Smith dates back to 2016. The fight was a quick appearance for Cyborg, who stopped Smith in the second minute of action with punches.

By the time the rematch happens in May, the first matchup between the two will have happened over five years ago.

“I don’t doubt that she [Cyborg] has evolved her game, but I am 100% sure that I have evolved my game more,” said Smith about the rematch on Friday.

Cyborg has seen nothing but success since joining Bellator in 2020. She earned the 145-pound belt in her first appearance for the promotion, stopping Julia Budd in the fourth round with strikes.

She has since defended the belt once, submitting Arlene Blencowe in October.

Smith is entering the title fight in May after a win, as she defeated Amanda Bell in September on scorecards. Her previous fight, a loss, came against former title challenger Blencowe.

Still over a month away, here are the fights that have been reported for Bellator 259.
