UFC’s May 8th card has lost a fight, as injury has removed Roxanne Modafferi from a bout against Taila Santos. Modafferi announced the injury via social media earlier in the week.
The fight was set to happen on a UFC “Fight Night” card that does not have a confirmed location at the moment.
Modafferi’s withdrawal from the fight was made as she looks to have surgery on a meniscus. The decision to get surgery comes after pain in her knee that has been intensifying.
“I’ve been toughing through it but it’s been getting worse and worse and worse to the point where I couldn’t really spar, and now, I can only walk,” said Modafferi via social media.
It is not known at the moment whether Santos will get a new opponent for the May 1st date. Santos was aiming for her third consecutive UFC win after victories over Gillian Robertson and Molly McCann last year.
Modafferi last fought in January, where she lost on scorecards to Viviane Araujo.
UFC’s May 8th card currently has bantamweights TJ Dillashaw and Cory Sandhagen booked for the main event.
