ONE Championship has put forward a strong lineup for their return to live broadcasts on Wednesday night. Atop a six-fight card in total on Wednesday night is a title fight between ONE Light Heavyweight Champion Aung La N Sang and Reinier de Ridder. The two met first met in the fall, where de Ridder took La N Sang’s middleweight belt from him. On Wednesday, the duo, are set to collide again at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.
Here’s a full preview of the event.
Lead Card (8:30PM EDT / 8:30AM SGT) (B/R Live)
Bout 1: Colbey Northcutt (1-1) vs. Courtney Martin (0-0) (133 lbs) (MMA Bout)
Colbey Northcutt will make her second appearance for ONE Championship by fighting Courtney Martin in the opening bout of the card.
Northcutt made her ONE debut in late 2019, fighting to a decision win against Putri Padmi. The victory was her first as a pro, putting her in the win column after losing her pro debut to Courtney King two years prior.
Martin will be making her first pro walk on Wednesday. The Australian fighter is turning pro after a strong run as an amateur, having put together eight wins and one loss from 2017 to 2019.
Northcutt was originally set to fight Sovannahry Em, although she was given a new opponent after Em withdrew from the fight.
Bout 2: Jackie Buntan vs. Ekaterina Vandaryeva (125 lbs) (Muay Thai Bout)
Returning after scoring an upset victory in her ONE debut, Jackie Buntan will fight Ekaterina Vandaryeva in a Muay Thai bout. Buntan’s fight earlier this year saw her dominate Wondergirl Fairtex for three rounds, even scoring a hard knockdown early in the fight.
Vandaryeva will be returning to ONE for the first time in over a year. Her promotional debut in 2019 resulted in a loss, as Janet Todd stopped her in the second round with a head kick.
Bout 3: Shinya Aoki (46-9) vs. Eduard Folayang (22-10) (170 lbs) (MMA Bout)
A pairing of veterans will close out the card, as Shinya Aoki will fight Eduard Folayang.
The two welterweights have met twice before, resulting in two drastically different results. Their first fight, a 2016 matchup, saw Folayang score a stoppage win in the third round due to strikes. Three years later, Aoki secured a first-round submission victory against Folayang.
A trilogy bout between the two wasn’t the original plan for the card. At first, Sage Northcutt was set to fight Aoki. However, plans changed after Northcutt had to pull out due to severe COVID-19 symptoms.
Aoki is on a strong run currently, having picked up three consecutive wins. His last victory was early this year, where he submitted former LFA Welterweight Champion James Nakashima in the first round with a rear naked choke.
Folayang lost both his fights last year, dropping scorecards to Pieter Buist and Tony Caruso.
Main Card (10:00PM EDT / 10:00AM SGT) (TNT)
Bout 4: Reug Reug (3-0) vs. Kirill Grishenko (3-0) (265 lbs) (MMA Bout)
Continuing to stay active this year, ONE heavyweight Oumar Kane, also known as “Reug Reug” will fight Kirill Grishenko in the opening fight of the main card.
Reug Reug has already fought twice this year, earning first-round victories in both appearances. His first fight was in January, where he defeated Alain Ngalani with ground and pound. Returning just earlier this month, Reug Reug scored a win against kickboxer Patrick Schmid, who was making his MMA debut on short notice.
Grishenko enters his first ONE fight with an identical undefeated pro record of three wins and no losses. Still in his rookie year as a pro, Grishenko had his few pro fights in October and November, stopping all of the bouts within their time limit.
Bout 5: Eddie Alvarez (30-8) vs. Ok Rae Yoon (14-3) (155 lbs) (MMA Bout)
Both returning just weeks after their last fight, Eddie Alvarez and Ok Rae Yoon will compete in the co-main event of the card.
Alvarez and Ok both last competed at ONE’s first “ONE on TNT” taping earlier this month.
Alvarez’s fight ended in controversy, as illegal blows to the back of Iuri Lapicus’ head forced their fight to end in the first round. While it was originally ruled a loss for Alvarez, it has recently been overturned to a no contest.
Ok won his ONE debut at the event, fighting to a decision victory over Marat Gafurov.
Bout 6: Aung La N Sang (26-11) vs. Reinier de Ridder (13-0) (ONE MMA Light Heavyweight Championship) (225 lbs)
In the fall of last year, Reinier de Ridder took one of Aung La N Sang’s belts, submitting him in the first round with a rear naked choke. Now with ONE’s 205-pound belt in his collection, de Ridder will move up to 225-pounds in an attempt to take La N Sang’s other belt.
The loss for La N Sang in October was the first time he was defeated since 2017. The undefeated run for the past few years had seven wins, including six via stoppage.
De Ridder has been undefeated for the entirety of his pro career. He was given a title shot in the fall after achieving three prior wins in ONE from 2019 to 2020.
La N Sang was first set to defend his belt against Vitaly Bigdash, although that plan was cancelled after Bigdash tested positive for COVID-19.
