UFC is currently working to put together a matchup between promotional newcomer Istela Nunes and former Invicta FC Atomweight Champion Jinh Yu Frey for their July 31st card, per a report from Farah Hannoun and Nolan King of MMA Junkie.
The fight is the first to be reported for a July 31st event. Should it be made official, it would be the start of a lineup that does not have a confirmed location at the moment.
Nunes will have the chance to make her first UFC walk. The 28-year-old was first set to make her UFC debut in 2019 against Angela Hill, although she was pulled from the fight after being flagged down by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.
Nunes tested positive for “multiple stanozolol metabolites,” handing her a two-year suspension that started in July of 2019. Her suspension is set to expire just days before UFC’s July 31st card this year.
Prior to her UFC signing in 2019, Nunes had a three-fight run in ONE Championship that resulted in two wins and one loss.
Frey snapped a two-fight skid in her last appearance, defeating Gloria de Paula on scorecards. The win came after close fights in her two prior UFC matchups.
