Former UFC Champ Tyron Woodley To Face Jake Paul In 10-Round Boxing Bout

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley will be the next opponent for celebrity boxer Jake Paul, per reports. A report from Ariel Helwani of ESPN confirmed the signing of a 10-round boxing bout which is set to take place on August 28th.

Woodley, a natural welterweight in MMA, will be moving up 20 pounds to face Paul at 190-pounds and will use 10-ounce gloves. The location for the bout is not known at the moment.

News of the bout was first reported earlier in the week by MMA Island and Mike Coppinger of The Athletic.

“Dear, @TWooodley [Woodley] thanks for being the second MMA fighter on my hit list,” said Paul via Twitter on Tuesday.

Coppinger’s report details that the fight will take place on Showtime pay-per-view. Paul’s previous two bouts took place on Triller broadcasts, which provided a mix of live boxing and music along with a long list of celebrity cameos on the broadcast.

Jake’s brother, Logan Paul, is set to fight Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition boxing bout on a June 6th Showtime PPV broadcast.

Paul scored his third pro boxing win in April, stopping former Bellator and ONE Champion Ben Askren within a round with strikes. His previous victories came in 2020 against former NBA player Nate Robinson and Youtube entertainer Ali Eson Gib.

Woodley is making the crossover to boxing after losing four consecutive bouts in the UFC. His losing streak started in 2019, where current welterweight champ Kamaru Usman scored a unanimous decision win over him.

Woodley lost his next two bouts in the main event of “Fight Night” cards, facing Gilbert Burns and Colby Covington.

The 39-year-old last competed in March, where Vicente Luque stopped him in the first round with a darce choke after a hectic few minutes of battle.
