Bellator Middleweight Champion Gegard Mousasi will look to defend his belt on August 13th when fighting John Salter, per a report from Nolan King of MMA Junkie.
The fight will headline a card from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA.
The matchup gives Mousasi a chance to defend his belt for the first time since regaining it last year. The 35-year-old claimed the 185-pound title in October, fighting to a unanimous decision win over Douglas Lima.
Mousasi had previously held the Bellator Middleweight Championship in 2018, although he later lost it two fights later to Rafael Lovato Jr. in a majority decision.
The fight will be Salter’s first title matchup since joining Bellator in 2015. He has had a near-perfect run in the promotion, earning eight wins through nine fights. Among those is sevens submission victories.
Salter had his momentum in the promotion stopped in 2018, as soon-to-be champion Lovato Jr. defeated him via submission. Salter has since strung together three victories in the promotion.
He last fought in August of 2020, where he secured an arm triangle choke over Andrew Kapel in the third round.
