Bryan Battle became the first member of Team Volkanovski to pick up a win on this season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” fighting to a unanimous decision win over Kemran Lachinov.
Battle’s victory came from his high pace of strikes through two rounds despite being on his backfoot. Lachinov was willing to advance throughout the fight, but he wasn’t the fighter connecting with the best strikes.
Lachinov attempted to take the fight down many times, with numerous takedowns being blocked by Battle.
Four previous fights in the season saw Brian Ortega’s team win bouts.
Lachinov entered the season as one of the most experienced records, having fought 13 times as a pro. His previous appearances include six bouts in Bellator.
Battle has less experience, with a smaller record and less time in his career. Having just turned pro in 2019, Battle has earned five wins and one loss.
Battle is now the third middleweight to advance into the semifinals of “TUF” Season 29. Previously episodes saw Tresean Gore and Andre Petroski make it through.
Undefeated bantamweight Dan Argueta will face Ricky Turcios for the second-last spot in the division’s semifinals on next week’s episode.
