Giga Chikadze will get his first main event UFC fight on August 28th, facing veteran Edson Barboza in a five-round featherweight bout. The new main event matchup was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN on Monday.
The fight headlines a card that does not have a confirmed location at the moment.
Chikdaze is getting a main event bout after an undefeated run in the UFC thus far. He has been part of the promotion since 2019 and has scored six wins in that time.
After notching decision wins in his first four bouts, Chikadze has earned finish victories in his past two appearances. Most recently, he stopped experienced fighter Cub Swanson in just over a minute with strikes.
Following what was easily the biggest win of his career thus far, Chikadze will get another big challenge in Barboza.
Barboza has competed in the UFC since 2010 and has a promotional record of 16 wins and nine losses.
While he has spent the majority of his career at lightweight, Barboza has competed at featherweight since 2020. He now has two wins and one loss in the weight class, including a recent stoppage win over Shane Burgos.
