Many changes have happened to UFC’s July 17th event, including two new matchups and the departure of a middleweight.
The new changes affect a card that is expected to take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Injury Forces Winn Out of Fight against Hawes
Deron Winn has been removed from his July 17th fight against Phillip Hawes due to injury. The middleweight announced his departure from the card on Tuesday through social media.
“I suffered a separated rib and torn cartilage in training last week … I would never withdraw from a competition if it wasn’t something that I thought was critical,” said Winn via Instagram.
The fight was set to be Winn’s first appearance in 2021.
It is not known currently if Hawes will get a new matchup for the show. The booking gave Hawes the chance to earn his third win since joining the UFC roster late last year.
UFC Announces Two New Bouts
UFC announced a package of new fights for July 17th recently, including two matchups that have not been previously reported by Knockdown News.
Returning after winning her UFC debut earlier this year, Montserrat Ruiz will meet Amanda Lemos at strawweight. Ruiz fought to a decision win against Cheyannge Buys in March, handing the Invicta FC vet her first UFC win.
Lemos will be fighting to earn her fourth consecutive UFC win. She moved her winning streak to a trio in March, stopping Livinha Souza within a round with strikes.
Both returning after facing a loss, heavyweights Rodrigo Nascimento and Alan Baudot will square off in July.
Baudot lost his UFC debut last year, stepping in on short notice to replace Serghei Spivac in a fight against Tom Aspinall. The fight didn’t go his way, as Aspinall finished him in the second minute with strikes.
Nascimento had an even quicker loss in his last fight, being stopped in just 45 seconds by Chris Daukaus last year. He had won his UFC debut earlier in the year.
