After Losing Previous Opponents, Aaron Phillips and Trevin Jones Matched For July 24th UFC Card

After both losing their original opponents for UFC’s July 24th card, Aaron Phillips and Trevin Jones have been paired up for a bantamweight bout. News of the new matchup was first broken by Farah Hannoun and Nolan King of MMA Junkie.

The new booking joins a card that is expected to take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Phillips is returning to the UFC cage roughly a year after he last competed. His last fight saw him get submitted by Jack Shore in the second round via rear naked choke. The fight was his return to the UFC after a six-fight run on the regional scene.

Phillips has not picked up a win in the UFC through three fights in his two separate stints in the promotion. He was originally set to face Cameron Else. It is not known currently why Else withdrew from the card.

The fight gives Jones a chance to earn his second UFC win. He scored a stoppage victory earlier this year against Mario Bautista to get into the win column.

He had previously won his UFC debut with an upset over Timur Valiev, although that result was later overturned to a no contest due to a drug test on Jones that detected marijuana in his system.

Jones was first booked to fight Tony Kelley, although he was given the new opponent after Kelley suffered an injury.

Bantamweights Cory Sandhagen and TJ Dillashaw are expected to headline UFC’s July 24th card. Here are the fights that have been reported for the card thus far.
