The UFC debut of Istela Nunes, which has now been years in the making, could happen on October 16th against Ariane Carnelossi. The strawweight matchup is being planned by the UFC currently, per a report from Carlos Antunes of AgFight.
The fight joins a card that does not have a confirmed location at the moment.
Nunes has been part of the UFC roster since 2019, although she has not been able to step into their cage yet. She first joined the promotion for a fight against Angela Hill years ago, although she was later pulled from the fight due to a drug test flagged by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.
Nunes has since fully served the two-year suspension and is able to compete again. She was first lined up to face Jinh Yu Frey in July, but that pairing was later scrapped.
Nunes joins the UFC after attaining two wins and one loss in ONE Championship.
Carnelossi won her return to action in April, stopping Liang Na in the second round of a fight at UFC 261. The bout was Carnelossi’s first win since joining the UFC.
A main event has not been booked for UFC’s October 16th card. Here is how the show looks currently.
