Kevin Lee Remains on August 28th UFC Card, Now Matched Against Daniel Rodriguez

Kevin Lee won’t have to wait longer than expected for his return to welterweight, as he has received a new short-notice opponent for UFC’s August 28th card. Lee is now expected to meet Daniel Rodriguez later this month, per a report by Alex Behunin of Cageside Press.

The new matchup joins a card that is expected to take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Lee was originally set to fight undefeated welterweight Sean Brady at the event. However, he had to change plans after an injury forced Brady off the card last week.

Lee had been waiting to fight for some time, as his booking against Brady was also previously attempted in July before later being delayed.

Lee has been out of the cage for over a year now. His last fight was back in March of 2020, where he lost a main event bout to now-UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira. His appearance later this month will be his first fight at welterweight since 2019.

The short-notice booking is a quick turnaround for Rodriguez, who scored a victory over Preston Parsons just last month. He’s no stranger to keeping active – that win in July was already his fifth victory since joining the UFC last year.

UFC’s August 28th card is currently set to be headlined by featherweights Giga Chikadze and Edson Barboza. The event will also include the two finale fights for the ongoing season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” Here is how the card looks now:

Bout 8: Edson Barboza (22-9) vs. Giga Chikadze (13-2) (Featherweight)

Bout 7: Ketlen Vieira (11-2) vs. Sara McMann (12-6) (Bantamweight)

Bout 6: Gerald Meerschaert (32-14) vs. Makhmud Muradov (25-6) (Middleweight)

Bout 5: Tracy Cortez (9-1) vs. JJ Aldrich (9-4) (Flyweight)

Bout 4: Alessio Di Chirico (13-5) vs. Aliaskhab Khizriev (13-0) (Middleweight)

Bout 3: Dustin Jacoby (14-5-1) vs. Darren Stewart (12-7) (Light Heavyweight)

Bout 2: Sam Alvey (33-15-1) vs. Wellington Turman (16-5) (Middleweight)

Bout 1: Kevin Lee (18-6) vs. Daniel Rodriguez (15-2) (Welterweight)
