RIZIN announced five new matchups for their September 19th card on Wednesday, revealing a diverse lineup for the event. The new fights on the card include RIZIN debuts, an MMA debut, and interesting matchups in MMA and kickboxing.
The new bouts join a card that is expected to take place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. It was announced Wednesday that the event will have a capacity of 5,000 attendees.
The biggest new fight announced sees UFC alum Ulka Sasaki and Yoshinori Horie meet at featherweight.
Horie won his RIZIN debut earlier this year with a stoppage victory against Tetsuya Seki. The fight was his first win on a big-stage after a short one-fight UFC run in 2019.
The 26-year-old has spent the majority of his pro career in Japanese promotion Pancrase, where he has picked up nine wins through 11 appearances.
Sasaki won his return late last year, fighting to a unanimous decision win over Kenta Takizawa. The performance snapped a two-fight losing streak for him and marked his first appearance in over a year, as a jaw injury sidelined him for a significant period of time.
K-1 Kickboxer Kubo To Make MMA Debut Against Wrestler Ota
Former K-1 Japan Champion Yuta Kubo will make his MMA debut on the card when facing former Olympic wrestler Shinobu Ota.
Kubo competed in kickboxing from 2005 to 2020 and has over 40 wins on his record. He notably became a K-1 Japan champion in 2017 and defended his belt three times. His last kickboxing bout was a win over Jordann Pikeur in March of 2020.
Kubo relinquished his belt last year with the goal of qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in boxing.
Ota was a silver medalist for Japan in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. He lost his MMA debut late last year, getting submitted in the second round of a bout against veteran Hideo Tokoro.
Yachi Looks To Continue ‘Sequel’ Against DEEP Champ Takeda
Yusuke Yachi’s “Sequel” campaign will attempt to continue in September when he fights Koji Takeda.
Yachi prevailed in a potential must-win bout in his last appearance, defeating Shooto Japan Lightweight Champion Yuki Kawana via unanimous decision. The fight put him back into the win column after losing five of his previous six.
Yachi has noted that he wants to face all regional champions before getting a big challenge. He will get that wish yet again, as Takeda is the DEEP Impact Lightweight Champion.
Takeda has won his past four fights, including two appearances in RIZIN.
Kickboxer Rina To Make RIZIN Debut
Popular Muay Thai and kickboxing fighter Panchan Rina will get her RIZIN debut on the card, fighting Momoka under kickboxing rules at the event.
While Rina predominantly competes in regional promotions REBELS and KNOCK OUT, she has a significant following online, including over 50,000 Instagram followers and 90,000 Youtube subscribers.
Momoka, a veteran of RISE Kickboxing and DEEP KICK, will also be appearing in RIZIN for the first time. She brings with her an experienced record of over a decade in kickboxing.
Suzuki Returns To MMA Against Veteran Maruyama
Chihiro Suzuki will make his return to MMA at RIZIN 30 when facing veteran Shoji Maruyama.
Suzuki has an MMA record of five wins and two losses, although he has seen success recently in kickboxing. He has already competed twice this year, defeating opponents on KNOCK OUT cards.
Maruyama will be returning to RIZIN on a two-fight losing streak. He was submitted quickly earlier this year by Yuki Motoya at a DEEP Impact event.
Maruyama lost his RIZIN debut last year to promotional star Kai Asakura.
It was previously announced that the four quarter-final bouts in RIZIN’s Bantamweight Grand Prix will take place at RIZIN 30. Here is how the lineup looks currently:
