MMA ring announcer Bruce Buffer won’t appear at this weekend’s UFC event, as he is currently recovering from a recent case of COVID-19.
UFC President Dana White revealed the news during a press conference Thursday.
“He didn’t wanna make this trip. He’s home, relaxing and recovering from COVID[-19],” said White.
Joe Martinez, a frequent alternate for Buffer at UFC events, will be filling in for him Saturday. He is set to introduce fighters at UFC 267, which will happen on October 30th at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Buffer’s absence Saturday ends his longstanding streak of appearances in the promotion.
Buffer has appeared at 255 consecutive numbered UFC events, a streak that dates back to 1996, per Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie.
