Former UFC fighter Jarred Brooks had a successful ONE Championship debut, securing a second-round submission win over Lito Adiwang to conclude a dominant performance.
The win headlined the promotion’s “Nextgen III” card, which occurred last month but aired for the first time on Friday. The fight took place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.
Brooks was able to secure an arm triangle choke submission over Adiwang shortly after securing a takedown halfway through the second round. The choke came shortly after the fight had a break, as Brooks claimed he was hit with a groin shot while in a clinch position with Adiwang.
Brooks had earned a lead in the fight early on, having controlled Adiwang with his wrestling for most of the opening round.
Following his victory, Brooks called out the entire 125-pound division in ONE Championship, including the current champ.
“Joshua Pacio needs to be put on notice. The whole strawweight division needs to be put on notice at this point,” said Brooks in his post-fight interview.
Brooks was competing for the first time since 2019. His last appearance was in RIZIN, where he defeated Haruo Ochi down at the 115-pound weight limit.
Pacio was riding a two-fight winning streak from this year alone when heading into this card. He had previously defeated Hexigetu and Namiki Kawahara in prior months.
Ramazanov Scores Quick Win Over Pongsiri In Return
Former ONE Lightweight Kickboxing Champion Alaverdi Ramazanov returned to the win column in the co-main event, scoring a late first-round stoppage win over Pongsiri P.K. Saenchaimuaythaigym under Muay Thai rules.
Ramazanov floored Pongsiri in the third minute with a combination of strikes. After throwing two hooks on Pongsiri, Ramazanov finished his combo with an uppercut.
A hurt Pongsiri attempted to return to his feet but severely wobbled, causing the referee to call the fight.
Ramazanov lost his kickboxing belt early this year, getting stopped in January by Capitan Petchyindee Academy.
Pongsiri was making his first ONE appearance in over a year. He scored a win in his prior fight, defeating Sean Clancy in September 2020.
Silva Secures Submission Win Over Catalan For Second Time In Career
Alex Silva secured a quick win on Friday’s card, submitting fellow vet Rene Catalan in the first round with an armbar. The submission came after a dominant grappling performance from Silva early in the fight.
The finish was reminiscent of the first meeting between the fighters, where Silva secured a first-round armbar win over Catalan in 2013. That first bout between the flyweights was only Catalan’s pro debut and was Silva’s third pro bout at the time.
Silva is now on a two-fight winning streak. He snapped a skid earlier this year, defeating Miao Li Tao on scorecards.
Catalan has now lost three consecutive bouts. Previous defeats in his current run have come against divisional champ Joshua Pacio and Bokang Masunyane.
Panpayak Defeats Puertas Under Kickboxing Rules
Panpayak Jitmuangnon returned to the win column in ONE, defeating promotional newcomer Daniel Puertas via unanimous decision in a kickboxing fight.
Panpayak picked up the victory after a strong three-round performance that included one knockdown.
Panpayak gained a lead early in the fight, dropping Puertas in the first minute with a left cross.
Puertas remained aggressive throughout the fight, making the battle closer in the second and third rounds.
Panpayak was appearing in ONE Championship for the first time in over a year. His previous fight was in the promotion’s Muay Thai division, where he lost to Superlek Kiatmoo9.
Takedowns Secure First ONE Victory For Emilbek
Ruslan Emilbek Uulu picked up his first ONE Championship victory, fighting to a unanimous decision win over Pieter Buist.
Ground control from Emilbek earned him the victory. He particularly controlled the fight in the first and third rounds, taking Buist down and remaining in a dominant position on the ground.
Emilbek lost his promotional debut earlier in the year, getting stopped with strikes from Yoshiki Nakahara.
Buist was making his first appearance since having a three-fight winning streak in the promotion be snapped by Timofey Nastyukhin last year.
Lobo Defeats Returning Rodlek For Second ONE Victory
Felipe Lobo had a strong showing to open the card, defeating Rodlek P.K. Saenchaimuaythaigym via unanimous decision after a three-round kickboxing battle.
Lobo had the better output of shots through three rounds, landing on a somewhat inactive Rodlek throughout.
Both fighters were warned frequently for catching kicks, which is not allowed under ONE’s kickboxing rules. Rodlek was the only one who faced a penalty due to this, being given a yellow card in the final minute of action.
Rodlek was fighting to bounce back from a Muay Thai title fight loss he took against Nong-O Gaiyanghadao late last year.
Lobo has now picked up two wins on ONE’s flagship brand. His debut fight for the brand in 2020 saw him defeat Yodpanomrung Jitmuangnon on scorecards.
