Featherweights Mike Grundy and Makwan Amirkhani will fight to end their losing streaks next year, fighting on UFC’s March 19th event. The new matchup was reported earlier this week by Farah Hannoun and Abbey Subhan of MMA Junkie.
The fight joins a UFC “Fight Night” card that doesn’t have a confirmed location at the moment.
Both fighters will enter the bout in a potential must-win position, having both lost consecutive bouts.
Amirkhani specifically is on a three-fight losing streak that has been building up since October 2020. He took his third loss in October, getting finished with strikes by Lerone Murphy at UFC 267.
Grundy has lost two bouts recently. After losing a decision to undefeated prospect Movsar Evloev last year, Grundy dropped a split decision to Lando Vannata in May.
Grundy won his UFC debut prior to the defeats, beating Nad Narimani in 2019.
The main event for UFC’s March 19th show is not known at the moment. Here is how the card looks currently:
Bout 4: Shamil Abdurakhimov (20-6) vs. Tom Aspinall (11-2) (Heavyweight)
Bout 3: Jake Hadley (8-0) vs. Francisco Figueiredo (12-4-1) (Flyweight)
Bout 2: Muhammad Mokaev (5-0) vs. Cody Durden (12-3-1) (Flyweight)
Bout 1: Mike Grundy (12-3) vs. Makwan Amirkhani (16-7) (Featherweight)
