A pair of previously booked matchups have been reportedly transferred to UFC’s February 12th pay-per-view event. The fights join UFC 271, which is set to happen at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, USA.
Ranked Middleweights Cannonier and Brunson Moved To February
A previously booked middleweight bout between Jared Cannonier and Derek Brunson has landed on UFC 271, per Brett Okamoto of ESPN.
The middleweights were first booked to fight at UFC’s January 22nd PPV card. The high-stakes fight will now happen just hours before the division’s championship will be on the line in the main event of the card.
Brunson is on a strong five-fight winning streak at middleweight. He scored the biggest win of that run in September, submitting Darren Till in a “Fight Night” headliner.
Cannonier is coming off a main event win, having defeated Kelvin Gastelum via unanimous decision in August.
Perez vs. Schnell Re-Booked
UFC will give a flyweight bout between Alex Perez and Matt Schnell another attempt next year. The new date for the fight was revealed Tuesday in a press release issued by the promotion.
A fight between Schnell and Perez was removed from UFC 269 last weekend following the weigh-ins. The fight was reportedly taken off the card due to the Nevada Athletic Commission saying Schnell had too high of a heart rate following his weight cut.
UFC has attempted a fight between Schnell and Perez three different times in 2021, with it falling off lineups due to varying reasons.
Perez’s last fight was in late 2020, where he lost a title bout to then-UFC Flyweight Champion Deiveson Figueiredo.
Schnell is also coming off a loss, having dropped a decision to Rogerio Bontorin in May.
