PFL Challenger Series: Week 1 Preview

PFL will recruit new talent for their upcoming season in the coming weeks when presenting a weekly “Challenger Series” broadcast. This show will run for the next six weeks and serve as a way for fighters to earn a spot in the promotion’s 2022 Regular Season.

Every week one weight class will compete on a card. Out of many names that will fight, one winner will be selected at the end of an episode to join the PFL roster.

This show will kick off on Friday night with an episode dedicated to light heavyweights. Here’s a preview of the names that will be fighting for that spot on the card.

Main Card (9:00PM EST) (FuboTV)

Bout 1: Miles Amos (5-2) vs. Karl Williams (3-1) (Light Heavyweight)

In the first fight, two light heavyweights on this card with the smallest records will meet. In this bout, Miles Amos and Karl Williams will collide.

Amos has fought as a pro since 2019 and currently flaunts a record of five wins and two losses. He struggled in late 2020 and early 2021 and fell into a two-fight skid, but has turned things around since then with two wins last year.

Williams will be fighting to bounce back from his sole pro loss, which he took just two months ago. This loss came after a busy rookie year that included three wins in 2021.

Bout 2: Travis Davis (10-5) vs. Bruco Souto (14-3) (Light Heavyweight)

The second fight of the evening will see Travis Davis and Bruco Suoto meet.

Suoto currently holds an impressive eight-fight winning streak since 2015. Most of this comes from the regional scene in Brazil but also includes a recent victory on an LFA card last year.

Davis is coming off a loss, although it came against rising Bellator prospect Johnny Eblen in July 2021. Before then, he had a strong run of winning four of his previous five fights.

Bout 3: Alexander Poppeck (12-3) vs. Taylor Johnson (7-3) (Light Heavyweight)

After a four-fight run in Bellator, Taylor Johnson will take a crack at the PFL when facing Alexander Poppeck.

Johnson fought four times in Bellator between 2020 and 2021. While he lost two of the fights, he emerged victorious via first-round submission in two other fights as well.

Johnson’s last win was a rear naked choke victory over Lance Wright in June 2021.

Before his Bellator run, Johnson had fought in the LFA and appearance once on “Dana White’s Contender Series.”

Poppeck, also a “Contender Series” alum, is entering Friday on a three-fight winning streak. His last victory came in May 2021, where he stopped Felix Polianidis with punches.

Bout 4: Josh Silveira (7-0) vs. Mohamed Juma (8-2) (Light Heavyweight)

The main event of Friday night’s card will see Josh Silveira and Mohamed Juma square off.

Silveira is the strongest prospect name heading into Friday night. He has an undefeated record of seven wins and was a two-division LFA champion.

Silveira is coming off a highly successful 2021 that saw him score four pro wins. His first title victory came in September 2021, where he scored a 49-second win against Tee Cummins to take LFA’s light heavyweight belt. Three months later, he battled five rounds against Jared Revel down at middleweight to earn more gold.

Juma most notably put together eight consecutive wins from 2015 to 2021. His most recent fight, a bout in October 2021 against Sofiane Boukichou, ended that streak. On Friday night he can start his momentum back up and even earn a shot on the PFL roster with a good performance.
