Next week’s UFC pay-per-view event has suffered some changes to the lineup with just days to go. Two fights have been removed from the card, although a new fight has been plugged into the lineup as well.
The changes come to a card that is set to happen on March 5th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Smith To Face Klein Instead of Gonzalez
Devonte Smith won’t face Erick Gonzalez next week, but will instead meet Ludovit Klein at lightweight. This change has come due to Gonzalez suffering an injury, per a statement he recently provided on social media.
News of the matchup change was first reported by Marcel Dorff of Eurosport Netherlands.
Smith will be fighting to bounce back from a stoppage loss he took against Jamie Mullarkey in October 2021.
The new matchup gives Klein a chance to also break a skid. He took two consecutive losses last year, getting beat by Mike Trizano and Nate Landwehr.
Eye Out of Fight Against Fiorot
Jessica Eye has been pulled from her flyweight fight against Manon Fiorot due to injury. Eye announced the news earlier this week, and Mike Heck of MMA Fighting confirmed it on Friday.
The bout was scheduled to give Eye a chance to break a three-fight losing streak. This is the second time recently that she has had to pull out of a fight. In late 2021, illness forced her out of a bout against Andrea Lee.
It is not known at the moment if Fiorot will get a new opponent for UFC 272. The rising contender has won three fights since joining the UFC in early 2021.
