Former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker and one-time title challenger Marvin Vettori are expected to meet at UFC’s June 11th pay-per-view card, per a recent report from Ariel Helwani.
While the fight hasn’t been finalized, reports say the matchup is “very close” to being done. Once confirmed, the fight will join UFC 275, which the promotion is aiming to hold in Singapore.
Vettori and Whittaker are two of the highest-ranked middleweights in the UFC currently.
Whittaker’s last appearance was a title fight against Israel Adesanya in February. The former champ lost in that matchup, getting beat via unanimous decision in the end.
Whittaker was placed in a title rematch against Adesanya after scoring three wins between 2020 and 2021, including two main event appearances.
Vettori also recently lost a fight to Adesanya, getting beat by him last year at UFC 263. He has since rebounded with a five-round victory over Paulo Costa, defeating him via unanimous decision in October 2021.
Two title fights are currently being lined up for UFC 275. Here is how the show looks currently:
Bout 3: Glover Teixeira (33-7) vs. Jiri Prochazka (28-3-1) (UFC Light Heavyweight Championship)
Bout 2: Valentina Shevchenko (22-3) vs. Taila Santos (19-1) (UFC Flyweight Championship)
Bout 1: Robert Whittaker (23-6) vs. Marvin Vettori (18-4-1) (Middleweight)
