Undefeated Bellator Flyweight Champion Juliana Velasquez is expected to face former UFC title challenger Liz Carmouche at Bellator 278 on April 22nd. News of the matchup was first confirmed by Nolan King of MMA Junkie on Monday.

The event is expected to be the first night of a doubleheader from the promotion at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA.

Carmouche is getting the title shot after quickly attaining three wins in Bellator. Her last win was her biggest since joining the promotion, stopping undefeated prospect Kana Watanabe in just 35 seconds with strikes last year.

Carmouche previously defeated experienced names Vanessa Porto and DeAnna Bennett. Prior to her Bellator run, Carmouche faced UFC Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko in 2019.

Velasquez defended her belt for the first time last year, going five rounds against Denise Kielholtz for a split decision victory. This kept her undefeated record going through 12 fights as a pro.

A year before then, Velasquez defeated Ilima-Lei Macfarlane to earn the 125-pound belt.
