Heavyweight veteran Ben Rothwell is the latest name to join bare-knuckle boxing promotion BKFC.
Rothwell, 40, announced his signing with BKFC during an interview on “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour” on Monday. The signing comes just a few weeks after Rothwell abruptly departed the UFC roster, ending a 17-fight run with the promotion over more than a decade.
Rothwell was booked to face Alexander Gustafsson in May before suddenly parting ways with the promotion.
In his recent interview, Rothwell said he asked for his release from the promotion. He said this move was done as he realized that a new contract was not guaranteed after the expiration of the one that he was previously on with the UFC.
Rothwell took a loss in his last fight, getting stopped in just 32 seconds by Marcos Rogerio de Lima last year.
