After both losing their original opponents, Bill Algeo and Herbert Burns have been paired up for UFC’s July 16th show. News of the matchup was confirmed by Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting on Friday.
The new fight is joining a card that is set to take place at the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York, USA.
Algeo was initially booked to face Billy Quarantillo on the card, and Burns was expected to meet Khussein Askhabov. Now that both of those fights have fallen through, this matchup was made to keep the remaining names on the card.
Burns will be making his long-awaited return with this fight. He took his first UFC loss in his last appearance, getting beat by veteran Daniel Pineda in August 2020. Before then, he had a couple of first-round finish wins in the promotion.
Algeo currently has an even UFC record of two wins and two losses. He earned a scorecard win in his last appearance, defeating Joanderson Brito in January.
