Antonio Carlos Junior won’t be able to become a two-time PFL champion this year.
Despite qualifying for the promotion’s 2022 playoffs, Carlos Junior has withdrawn from the bracket due to an injury.
News of the recent change was announced by the promotion, who confirmed this week that Carlos Junior won’t be appearing at their August 5th playoff event at the Hulu Theater in New York City, New York, USA.
Carlos Junior, PFL’s 2021 Light Heavyweight Champion, was coming off a successful regular season. He started the year with a 29-second submission win against Delan Monte, and followed that win up with a decision victory over Bruce Suoto.
The defending champ was scheduled to meet Omari Akhmedov in the semi-finals of the 2022 postseason. With his absence, he will be replaced by former two-division LFA champion Joshua Silveira, who was the alternate for the bracket.
The other light heavyweight playoff bout is expected to be between Rob Wilkinson and Delan Monte.
