Tony Ferguson will move up a weight class next month amid an attempt to end the longest losing streak of his career. Ferguson will face Li Jingliang as part of UFC 279 on September 10th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, per an announcement made Saturday.
Ferguson will be aiming to avoid suffering his fifth consecutive loss. He has taken four straight defeats since 2020, losing to some of the best names at lightweight.
The 38-year-old took a brutal loss in his last outing, taking a fifth-round front kick knockout against Michael Chandler.
Ferguson will be appearing at welterweight for the first time in over a decade. His last appearance in the weight class was in 2011 when he won his UFC debut against Ramsey Nijem.
Li has flipped between wins and losses in recent years, prevailing in three of his last five fights. His last appearance was in July when he scored a second-round finish over Muslim Salikhov.
Before then, Li took a quick defeat to rising contender Khamzat Chimaev.
Chimaev is set to headline UFC 279, facing veteran Nate Diaz in a five-round bout. Here’s an updated look at the card:
