UFC’s September 12th event is nearing it’s headlining bout being booked, as Glover Teixeira and Thiago Santos are being booked for the show. The matchup was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN.
The fight will be Santos’ return following a July of 2019 bout against Jon Jones for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. The split decision favoured Jones, although many debated whether Santos should have won.
Following the fight over Jones, Santos had to get surgery done on both knees due to a ligament in one and a meniscus in each.
Before the championship bout, Santos was on a four-fight streak of wins, including finishes over Eryk Anders, Jimi Manuwa and Jan Blachowicz. Should this matchup be officially booked, it will be the third-straight five-round matchup that Santos has been booked for.
Teixeira’s 2019 run saw him defeat three light heavyweights, including stoppage wins over Karl Roberson and Ion Cutelaba. His most recent fight saw him defeat Anthony Smith, stopping him in the fifth round with strikes.
The September 12th card is still small, with only two other bouts scheduled for it thus far. Here’s how it looks.
Bout 3: Glover Teixeira (31-7) vs. Thiago Santos (21-7) (Light Heavyweight)
Bout 2: Andrea Lee (11-4) vs. Roxanne Modafferi (24-17) (Flyweight)
Bout 1: Matt Schnell (14-5) vs. Tyson Nam (19-11) (Flyweight)
