UFC’s upcoming September 12th “Fight Night” has lost it’s main event bout, as a positive COVID-19 test has taken Glover Teixeira out of his matchup against Thiago Santos. The withdrawal was first reported by Ana Hissa and Raphael Marinho of Combate.
The matchup has a new date attached to it already, as the light heavyweight duel has now been added to the UFC’s October 3rd event.
The positive COVID-19 test for Teixeira is now one of the many that have forced a UFC main event to change. Many previous main events have been lost due to COVID-19, most notably being a UFC Welterweight Championship bout between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns last July at UFC 251.
One of Teixeira’s training partners, GLORY Kickboxing Champion Alex Pereira, has also tested positive for COVID-19, per a report from Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting.
With the removal of the light heavyweight main event, UFC’s September 12th card is left with 12 bouts in total. Here’s the card for the show, which is scheduled to take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
