The long-awaited matchup between Patricio Pitbull and Rafael Carvalho is now expected to happen on November 12th. News of the Bellator Featherweight Championship bout was first reported by Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting.
The fight is expected to take place at Bellator’s hub venue in the United States, the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
A meeting between the two fighters was first scheduled for mid-March, although it was cancelled last minute due to the growing severity of COVID-19 at the time.
The bout is a quarter-final for the Bellator 16-man featherweight tournament. The winner of the fight will be set to face the winner between Emmanuel Sanchez and Daniel Weichel.
On the other side of the bracket, AJ McKee and Darrion Caldwell are both in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Pitbull, the featherweight champion, has held the belt since 2017, where he defeated Daniel Straus via guillotine choke. He has defended the belt three times since also becoming a two-division champion by dethroning lightweight champ Michael Chandler.
Carvalho will enter the fight on a six-fight streak of wins. He made his Bellator debut in 2018, picking up a split decision victory over Daniel Crawford. He has since defeated three more fighters all via stoppage.
The bout is the only one booked for the November 12th card currently.
