Positive COVID-19 tests are forcing UFC’s Saturday night pay-per-view event to lose fights rapidly. Now with two more fights off the card, Saturday’s card is set to have 10 fights from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Dwight Grant has been taken out of his fight against Li Jingliang after testing positive for COVID-19. Grant announced the test on Monday through social media.
“It’s out of my control so im not going to try not to dwell on it too much, but to call it disappointing is an understatement,” said Grant on Instagram.
It is not known whether Jingliang will get a replacement opponent with only a few days until his fight.
A positive COVID-19 test also forced a fight between Karl Roberson and Dalcha Lungiambula off the card, pushing it to the promotion’s December 19th card. News of the cancelled fight was announced by both fighters and reported by Alexander K. Lee and Mike Heck of MMA Fighting.
The cancelled fights on Monday were not the first for the card. A strawweight fight between Angela Hill and Tecia Torres departed the card on Sunday after Hill announced that she tested positive.
Saturday’s UFC 256 card has kept the upper half of it’s card intact, including a UFC Flyweight Championship bout between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno.
