Rising UFC featherweight Hakeem Dawodu has been removed from his UFC 257 fight against Shane Burgos due to injury. First reported by Simon Head and Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie, injury took Dawodu out of the January 23rd pay-per-view show.
The fight was scheduled to take place at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is not known at the moment if Burgos will get a replacement opponent for his fight which is now just two weeks away.
Dawodu was looking to continue his UFC win streak in the matchup. Dawodu entered the fight on a five-fight win streak, most recently with a split decision win against Zubaira Tukhugov.
Burgos was aiming to return to the win column in the fight. His previous bout was a scorecard loss to Josh Emmett in June. Prior to then, Burgos had a three-fight win streak as a featherweight. The loss for Burgos was given a UFC “Fight of the Night” award.
UFC 257 is currently scheduled to be headlined by Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier in a five-round non-championship fight.
