Bellator fighter and former GLORY kickboxer Robin van Roosmalen is currently hospitalized following a car accident on Wednesday.
The accident, first reported by RTV Utrecht, reported the collision of a truck and a car on a highway near Nieuwegein, Utrecht, Netherlands. Later reports identified van Roosmalen and his sister in the accident.
Melissa van Roosmalen, the sister of Robin, passed away due to the accident, reports say.
MMA Fighting obtained a statement from Bellator, who were saddened to hear the news of the accident.
“Our thoughts are with Robin and his entire family during this difficult time,” said Bellator.
Van Roosmalen was scheduled to fight on a Bellator card in October against Nauzet Trujillo. Plans changed after van Roosmalen tested positive for COVID-19.
Van Roosmalen was a frequent competitor in GLORY Kickboxing from 2012 to 2018. He earned the promotion’s 145-pound belt in 2017.
“The GLORY family is heartbroken to learn of Melissa Van Roosmalen’s passing and critical injuries sustained to Robin Van Roosmalen in a car accident,” said GLORY in a statement via Twitter. “We send our deepest condolences to the Van Roosmalen family and their loved ones.”
