The upcoming eight-woman atomweight tournament being put together by DEEP Jewels has seen a slight change in the lineup, as Emi Sato will take the place of Otoha Nagao.
The promotion announced the change on Friday, mentioning that an injury removed Nagao from her place in the tournament.
Sato will enter the bracket after a rough couple of years in the promotion. The 39-year-old is currently on a three-fight losing streak that consists completely of first-round stoppage fights. Her last win was in 2018, where she defeated Mizuki Furuse.
Sato joins a lineup that includes Aya Murakami, Sakura, Hikaru Aono, Si Woo Park,. Saori Oshima, Emi Tomimatsu and Nisse.
The first round of the tournament is set to happen at DEEP Jewels 32 on March 7th at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
The winner of the bracket will become the promotion’s new atomweight champion.
The matchups for the first round will be decided on January 31st.
