Justin Jaynes is set to step in on short notice to fight Devonte Smith at UFC’s February 6th “Fight Night” event. Mike Heck of MMA Fighting confirmed the matchup on Monday.
The fight between Jaynes and Smith joins a lineup set to happen at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
While both Smith and Jaynes usually compete at lightweight, Saturday’s fight between them will be held at a catchweight of 160 pounds.
Jaynes will take the place of Alex da Silva, who withdrew from his bout against Smith a week ago.
Jaynes will be competing for the first time in 2021. He enters the fight after a busy 2020 that saw him make his UFC debut.
Smith enters the bout with the goal of bouncing back from his first loss in the UFC. Smith’s last fight was a loss to Khama Worthy in 2019. He had two wins in the UFC prior to the loss.
