UFC is looking to book a flyweight bout between Alex Perez and Matt Schnell for their May 15th “Fight Night” card. News of the potential matchup was first reported by MMA DNA.
Should the fight be made official, it will join a lineup that does not have a confirmed location at the moment.
The fight will be Perez’s return after losing a title shot to Deiveson Figueiredo in November of 2020. Perez was stopped quickly by the champ at UFC 255, getting submitted in the second minute of action with a guillotine choke.
Perez had attained a three-fight win streak in the flyweight division prior to his title shot.
Schnell is being given Perez after picking up a split decision victory against Tyson Nam in January. The bout was Schnell’s first in over a year, as issues forced him out of two bookings in 2020.
Schnell has won four of his past five bouts.
UFC’s May 15th card is currently without a main event. Here are the bouts that have been reported for the lineup so far.
Bout 3: Gina Mazany (7-4) vs. Priscila Cachoeira (9-3) (Flyweight)
Bout 2: Katlyn Chookagian (15-4) vs. Viviane Araujo (10-2) (Flyweight)
Bout 1: Alex Perez (24-6) vs. Matt Schnell (15-5) (Flyweight)
