Bantamweights Felipe Colares and Journey Newson will meet at UFC’s May 1st “Fight Night” event. Tudo Sobre MMA was the first to report the matchup.
The fight joins a lineup that does not have a confirmed location currently.
Newson will be in search of his first UFC win. He has competed three times since 2019, taking two losses and one win that was overturned due to a drug test.
Newson had a quick fight in September, as Randy Costa was able to stop him within a minute with strikes. The 31-year-old bantamweight had a six-fight win streak on the regional scene prior to getting signed by the UFC.
Colares will be competing for the first time in over a year. His last bout was in early January, where Montel Jackson earned a decision victory over him. His prior bout, his sole UFC win, saw him take a split decision against Domingo Pilarte.
Colares was scheduled to fight in November against Gustavo Lopez, although it was cancelled after he tested positive for COVID-19.
