Amanda Nunes has the chance to tie a UFC record with a win over Julianna Pena in August.
Two-division UFC Champion Amanda Nunes will make her return to the bantamweight division when fighting Julianna Pena at UFC 265, per a report from Brett Okamoto of ESPN.
The fight does not have an official location or date at the moment. The current date that the promotion is aiming to hold the event on is August 7th, per reports.
Both of Nunes’ appearances in 2020 saw her defend her UFC Featherweight Championship. Dropping back down to 135-pounds, a division that she has ruled since 2016, Nunes will attempt to defend her belt for the sixth time.
A win for Nunes would tie the record for most title defences in the division, something that Ronda Rousey holds currently for her run as champion from 2012 to 2015.
Nunes had a quick appearance in her last bout, submitting Megan Anderson in just over two minutes earlier this year.
Pena is getting a title shot following a submission win earlier this year against Sara McMann. The fight is a wish come true for the Season 18 winner of “The Ultimate Fighter,” who called out Nunes following her last win.
The bout in January was Pena’s third win in five bouts. Her losses in the past few years came against big names in the sport like Valentina Shevchenko and Germaine de Randamie.
The bantamweight bout between Nunes and Pena is the first to be reported for UFC 265.
