Bellator’s April 16th event will go on without a featherweight matchup, as a preliminary card bout between John de Jesus and Alfred Khashakyan has departed the lineup for undisclosed reasons. News of the fight’s cancellation was initially reported by Nolan King of MMA Junkie.
The fight was set to happen during Bellator’s preliminary card at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA.
Both fighters were looking to bounce back from losing in their previous appearance.
Khashakyan lost his Bellator debut in early 2020, getting submitted within a round by former UFC fighter Sergio Pettis. He was given the Bellator fight after three first-round finish wins on the regional scene.
De Jesus was stopped in his last fight by Aaron Pico, who caught him in the second round with an overhand right. The 30-year-old won his Bellator debut just months before, fighting to a decision win over Vladyslav Parubchenko.
Two quarterfinal fights in Bellator’s Light Heavyweight Grand Prix are currently set to headline the card on Friday night.
