Bellator Roundup: Nine Fights Join May/June Schedule

Lots of changes have happened recently to Bellator’s schedule of events in May and June. Here is a roundup of all of the matchups that have been reported or confirmed for the show.

All of the fights are set to happen at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA.

Bellator 258 Gets Two New Bouts, Loses One

Bellator’s next event, a card on May 7th, has seen some changes in its lineup. One new bout has joined the show, with another changing and one departing for the time being at least.

Flashy welterweight Michael Page will return on the card when fighting Derek Anderson. The bout was first confirmed by Ariel Helwani of ESPN.

Page extended his win streak to four-in-a-row in October, although his lack of output in his fight against Ross Houston caused fans to boo Page afterwards. He is best known for his highlight reel finishes to fights.

Anderson currently has three consecutive wins in Bellator over the past few years. He scored a stoppage win in his last showing, catching Killys Mota in the second round with strikes.

James Gallagher is out of a previously reported bout against Patchy Mix, per a report from Nolan King of MMA Junkie. Gallagher left the lineup due to an undisclosed reason, says the report. Gallagher was looking to wager his four-fight win streak, which included a recent victory over Cal Ellenor.

It is not known currently if Mix will get a new opponent for his bout. He was aiming to bounce back after losing a title fight to Juan Archuleta last year.

Henry Corrales has received a new opponent for Bellator 258, now being paired against Johnny Campbell, as first reported by Nolan King of MMA Junkie. Corrales was first booked to fight Keith Lee, who withdrew from the fight for undisclosed reasons.

Campbell, a veteran of the regional scene, will be making his Bellator debut in the fight. He had a four-fight win streak stopped in gruesome fashion in his last fight, as his ear being cut open took him out of a title fight against Ary Farias last year.

Corrales snapped a two-fight skid in his last bout, defeating Brandon Girtz via split decision.

Trio of Bouts Joins Bellator 259

Bellator’s May 21st card headlined by Cris Cyborg and Leslie Smith has been given three more bout as of late.

Undefeated light heavyweights Grant Neal and Tyree Fortune will be paired up for the card, as confirmed by the promotion’s website.

Neal’s five-fight pro run includes four wins in Bellator at the moment. He made big improvements last year, competing three times and scoring two stoppage wins. His last fight was in late 2020, where he submitted Maurice Jackson with a rear naked choke.

Fortune will be making his return to action after over a year outside the cage. Fortune’s last fight was in November of 2019, where he took a split decision over Chuck Campbell on a Bellator card.

Looking for her fourth consecutive win in Bellator, Leah McCourt will face Janay Harding, as first broken by Gareth A. Davies. McCourt has been flawless since joining Bellator in 2019, earning two stoppage wins and one via scorecards.

Harding won in her return to the cage in the fall, defeating Jessy Miele via unanimous decision.

McCourt and Harding were first set to meet on a Bellator lineup in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the promotion to cancel a series of events.

Aviv Gozali, a lightweight known for quick submission wins, will fight for the sixth time when matched against Sean Felton at Bellator 259. Alan Dawson of INSIDER confirmed the pairing earlier in the week.

Gozali has showcased his grappling skills exclusively in Bellator since turning pro in 2018. He has yet to leave the first round in a fight due to finishing all of his appearances in under five minutes. This was last seen in October, when he defeated Logan Neal.

Felton is making his Bellator debut after a career-long run in regional MMA promotion King of the Cage. He has five wins through eight fights as a pro.

Two Bouts Join Recently Announced June 11th Card

Bellator’s recently announced June 11th lineup now has two more matchups that can be associated with it. Bellator 260 was first discussed earlier in the week when a championship fight between Douglas Lima and Yaroslav Amosov was reported. Both of the two new matchups were revealed by Bellator via press release on Friday.

LFA Featherweight Champion Justin Gonzales will make his Bellator debut when facing Tywan Claxton on the card. Gonzalez became a regional champion in July, stopping Jake Childers in the fourth round of a bout in LFA. The fight extended his undefeated record to 11-straight.

Claxton will be fighting to return to his winning ways after losing two of his last three. He lost to rising featherweight Jay-Jay Wilson in his last appearance, dropping a split decision in July.

Fighting for the first time in a year, Nick Newell will step back into the Bellator cage to fight Bobby King.

Newell took his first loss in Bellator in his last fight, losing a decision to Manny Muro in 2019. He won his Bellator debut just two months prior to then against Corey Browning.

King steps into Bellator following a three-fight win streak on the regional scene.

Newell’s return to Bellator was set for October last year, although it was cancelled after he tested positive for COVID-19.
